We are always looking for new volunteers to join our team. Whether you ride a bike and want to be on our rider team or prefer to help with fundraising, we will welcome you with open arms.
Without fundraising and support from local businesses we would not be able to operate.
As one of our blood runners, you will work on an operational shift basis with the rest of the team.
When you are on call, you will be responsible for the bike, so must have somewhere safe to store it. You will also need to be willing to commit your time whilst on the shift, solely to the bike. A call will come in to you and you need to be at home ready to go to action.
All riders will be expected to wear their High-Viz Uniform at ALL TIMES whilst on a call. You must also be willing to ride the bike in all weather conditions (except snow and ice).
Riders will need to pass a RoSPA assessment course and also our own Blood Bike West Skills course.
Riders are expected to in a responsible and courteous manner to other road users. Remember, you are representing Blood Bike West.
To become a rider with us you should meet the following criteria:
Co-Ordinators are a vital part of the team. As a Co-Ordinator you will be in first contact with the hospitals when they ring in. Your job will be to contact the relevant biker and pass on the details of the call. The rider will contact you when he/she is leaving home, at the pick-up destination, at the drop-off destination and then lastly when they return home.
Most calls will come in during the early evening, so your sleep will not be too disrupted!
We will be running various events throughout the year, from the Bike Runs, to bucket collections and bag packing.
Any ideas are gratefully welcomed.
We welcome anyone to come on board and help at our fundraising days or to run a fundraising event themselves, maybe through work or a school.
